Former President John Dramani Mahama announced that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration plans to establish a fintech growth fund with an initial seed capital of US$50 million. This fund will support indigenous companies in fostering the growth of the digital economy. Additionally, Ghanaians interested in coding will have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Coding for Employment Programme’. The program aims to train one million coders with in-demand digital skills for the growing Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) ecosystems.
Speaking at the closing of a two-day NDC LAB Policy Dialogue, themed “Towards the 2024 Manifesto: Consolidating Our Thematic Group Policy Proposals,” former President Mahama highlighted the party’s commitment to hitting the ground running on January 7, 2025, if elected. He emphasized the importance of starting preparatory work before assuming office and expressed confidence in delivering a manifesto that responds to the day-to-day needs of Ghanaians.
Former President Mahama outlined plans to collect data on all abandoned and uncompleted public infrastructure to assess and prioritize upgrades and completions in sectors like health and education. He stressed the importance of transitioning to a 24-hour economy to achieve economic expansion, boost productivity, and create well-paying jobs.
The former President acknowledged the positive feedback and input received from various sectors on the proposed policies. He highlighted the consultative approach taken by the NDC in formulating policies and mentioned the completion of a policy/strategy document on the proposal. This document will soon be shared with the people of Ghana, as the party remains committed to building a prosperous future for all citizens.
In his address, Mr. Mahama reassured Ghanaians of the party’s readiness to lead the nation towards shared prosperity. He emphasized the need for a clear plan and strategy to address the current challenges facing the country. The NDC aims to leverage the digital economy, support indigenous businesses, and prioritize infrastructure development to meet the needs of the people.
