In a press release dated January 17, 2024, the General Secretary of the party, Fifi Kwetey, made an announcement regarding the temporary suspension of all activities related to the primaries in the constituency.
Mr. Annan contested the decision that prevented him from participating in the primary elections, leading to a court-granted interlocutory injunction restraining the NDC from conducting the election until the matter is resolved.
The NDC clarified in the statement that the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) had decided to indefinitely postpone the election during a meeting on January 16, 2024.
The party urged branch and constituency executives to maintain peace and harmony until further notice.
The NDC also apologized for any inconvenience caused and assured members that a new date for the primaries would be communicated once it is fixed.
Mr. Annan’s disqualification by the FEC in November 2023 was based on the findings of a special committee, which found that he had not satisfied the requirement of Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution. This article stipulates that an aspirant must have been an active party member at the constituency level for the four years preceding the nomination date.
Accompanying the press release is an image of Fiifi Kwetey. The press release and image provide insight into the internal matters and decision-making processes within the NDC. It highlights the importance of adhering to the party’s constitution and regulations regarding participation in primary elections. The NDC’s commitment to ensuring fair and just processes in the selection of its candidates is evident through the temporary suspension and subsequent legal intervention in response to Mr. Annan’s grievances.
