The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to rejoin the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) as a demonstration of its commitment to actively participate in shaping the electoral framework and ensuring the integrity of Ghana’s democratic institutions. This decision was communicated through a press release dated Sunday, January 28, 2024, and endorsed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

In the press release, the NDC expressed optimism about the revival of IPAC, drawing inspiration from the robust Consensus Building Platform established during the tenures of Dr. Afari Djan and Charlotte Osei as Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

The NDC had previously refrained from participating in IPAC gatherings since March 2020, citing reservations about the Electoral Commission’s approach and alleging neglect of decisions made during IPAC sessions as part of its electoral improvement efforts.

However, the party has now chosen to resume its participation in IPAC following mediation by the National Peace Council and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa. This intervention occurred during a conference aimed at assessing institutional advancements to establish the necessary resilience for credible, transparent, and peaceful general elections in 2024.

This decision highlights the NDC’s commitment to engaging constructively in the electoral process and working towards the improvement of democratic practices in Ghana. By rejoining IPAC, the party aims to contribute to the consensus-building process and advocate for fair electoral practices that uphold the principles of democracy.

In light of the current political landscape and the upcoming general elections in 2024, the NDC’s return to IPAC signifies a significant step towards fostering collaboration among political parties and electoral stakeholders. It reflects the party’s dedication to upholding democratic principles and ensuring the transparency and credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.
