The National Policy Dialogue organized by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Eastern Region will see the Flagbearer of the party, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, addressing the event. The two-day dialogue aims to focus on the party’s Policy Priorities for the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in December. This event is being organized by the party’s leadership and the NDC Social Democracy LAB, an NDC policy think tank.

According to a press statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate in Accra, the dialogue will specifically focus on the former President’s 24-hour economy and prioritize policy proposals to transform and rebuild Ghana. The event will involve a total of 200 experts drawn from the NDC structures, Minority Caucus of Parliament, and the Social Democratic LAB thematic groups. These thematic groups include Human Development, Finance and Economy, and Governance. The dialogue is in preparation towards the 2024 Manifesto development process and aims to lay the groundwork for a strategic, efficient and lean government come January 2025.

The former president’s proposed 24-hour economy initiative is intended to enable businesses to operate three shifts per day. He has emphasized that achieving this goal will require collaboration between the government and the private sector and that the initiative is designed to create new employment opportunities, particularly for young people, as well as address unemployment and enhance living standards in Ghana.

In a social media post, the NDC flagbearer mentioned that his government would enact new laws to support businesses operating a 24-hour system in seven days, including labor laws and tax incentives. He also highlighted that there would be favorable tax policies, stimulus packages, and financial assistance available for specific industries such as agro-processing and manufacturing.

Mr. Mahama also stressed that buying local products and services would be the government’s top priority. He assured the implementation of measures to ensure the smooth operation of the 24-hour economy.

Overall, the National Policy Dialogue in the Eastern Region signifies an important step in the NDC’s preparation for the 2024 elections and showcases the party’s commitment to addressing key policy priorities for Ghana’s development. With a focus on the 24-hour economy and the involvement of various experts and stakeholders, the dialogue is expected to contribute significantly to shaping the NDC’s manifesto and laying the groundwork for the party’s policy priorities in the upcoming elections.
