Don’s Music Production, the organizers of the Ghana Music Awards USA, hosted a major press soiree last Friday, with key figures from the music industry in attendance. The purpose of the event was to gather feedback from the media and music industry stakeholders regarding the awards scheme and to explore more effective ways of making it beneficial to the Ghanaian music industry.
During the Soiree, the CEO of Don’s Music Production, known as the Don, highlighted the challenges that the GMA Awards has faced with the media and emphasized the importance of the interaction to address any existing gaps. The event also marked the announcement of the 5th edition of the awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on August 17, 2024. Nominations for the various categories were officially opened, and songs eligible for nominations must have been released between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. The nominee announcement is set to take place on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Notable figures from the music industry and media personalities such as Wuta Kobby, Keche, Halifa Ansah- Addo, Ashes, Kwabena Kwabena’s manager, Mona Gucci, Papa Bill’s of Adom FM, Kojo Preko of Focap, and many others attended the Soiree at the Soho restaurant in Marina Mall in Accra. The night was an opportunity for music enthusiasts to engage with industry players and celebrate the Ghanaian music industry.
The GMA-USA features various award categories including Best Afropop Artiste, Discovery Act of the Year, Rapper of the Year, Female Artiste of the Year, Male Artiste of the Year, Best Gospel Song of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, Best Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, among others. Since its inception, the GMA-USA has elevated Ghanaian music on the international stage, particularly in the United States of America.
The last awards ceremony saw Black Sherif being honored with the topmost prize, Artiste of the Year. Additional winners included Camidoh, Piesie Esther, and Samini.
