The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, addressed claims made by some members of Team Ghana at the ongoing African Games regarding the lack of equipment and kits for their respective events. He firmly denied these allegations and reassured the public that the athletes did receive the necessary equipment for their competitions.

In response to complaints from cyclists and badminton players about the lack of training equipment, Mr. Ussif emphasized that the Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Local Organizing Committee and Team Ghana federation heads, had procured and delivered the requested equipment. He explained that there were delays in obtaining sizes from the athletes, which sometimes hindered the timely delivery of equipment.

Additionally, Mr. Ussif highlighted that some federations were not distributing the equipment to the athletes as intended, causing further complications. Despite these challenges, the Ministry invested half a million dollars in procuring international standard equipment for the basketball federation, emphasizing the commitment to provide quality equipment for future events.

Regarding the power outage at the Cape Coast stadium during a game between the Black Princesses and their Ethiopian counterparts, Mr. Ussif expressed regret over the incident and stated that the Ministry and LOC had engaged all stakeholders to prevent such occurrences. He urged Ghanaians and the media to focus on the positive aspects of the Games and support the country’s efforts to establish itself as a sports destination.

Mr. Ussif encouraged unity and collaboration to promote Ghana’s success in hosting a successful African Games. He highlighted the praise received from international organization officials for the quality of the event and urged everyone to work towards showcasing Ghana as a leading sports destination.

In conclusion, the Minister’s remarks aimed to address concerns raised by Team Ghana athletes and reinforce the Ministry’s commitment to providing adequate support and resources for sports development in the country. The emphasis on collaboration and positivity underscored the efforts to promote Ghana’s reputation as a thriving sports destination.
