The Muslim community in Accra received a generous donation of assorted food items to support them during the sacred month-long Ramadan. This donation, consisting of rice, cooking oil, tomato paste, milk, sugar, and tea bags, was provided by the Mohammed VI Foundation of African Oulema – Ghana branch as part of their 2024 Ramadan Food Distribution Project. A total of 250 families benefitted from this initiative, allowing them to observe the fasting period from dawn to dusk in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The President of the Foundation in Ghana, Sheikh Mustapha Ibrahim, and the Morocco Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Imane Ouaadil, oversaw the distribution of the items at Kotobabai Wembley Park in Accra. The event was also attended by former member of the Council of State, Dr Rabiatu Ammah. The Mohammed VI Foundation for Africa Oulema – Ghana branch was established in 2015 with the goal of uniting Muslim Scholars across the African continent to promote peace and religious tolerance.
During Ramadan, the emphasis is on charity and helping those in need, a principle that the Foundation upholds through its humanitarian activities in Ghana. These efforts aim to enable Muslims to observe religious festivals and activities with ease, ensuring that they have the necessary resources to do so. Sheikh Ibrahim highlighted the importance of Ramadan in fostering community spirit and strengthening family bonds, values that are integral to the Muslim faith.
He also emphasized the significance of peace and religious co-existence, urging Muslims to uphold the core values of Islam, which promote peace and tolerance. Sheikh Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the King and government of Morocco for their ongoing support to the Ghanaian community. Ms Ouaadil echoed these sentiments and wished the Muslim community a successful Ramadan, emphasizing the strong friendship between Morocco and Ghana.
