The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ejisu Constituency recently held its parliamentary primary to select a candidate for the upcoming general election. Mr. Kwabena Boateng, the Second Vice Chairman of the constituency, emerged victorious with 394 votes. His closest competitors, Helena Mensah and Yaa Akyemaa Aboagye, received 302 and 229 votes respectively.

Mr. Boateng expressed his gratitude to the delegates for entrusting him with the opportunity to represent the party in the December parliamentary polls. He called for unity among party members to work towards a common goal of winning both the parliamentary and presidential elections in the upcoming general election.

The primary also saw the participation of former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, who received 35 votes. Other candidates included Dr. Evans Duah with 63 votes, Portia Acheampong Abronye with six votes, Klinsman Karikari Mensah and Aaron Prince Duah with two votes each, and Jacqueline Abena Pokua Amoah-Boaitey with zero votes. A total of 1,035 votes were cast, with two rejected ballots, making a total of 1,033 valid votes.

The need for the primary arose following the passing of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejisu, Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, on March 7, 2024, after a brief illness. The by-election to fill the vacant seat necessitated the selection of a new parliamentary candidate for the NPP in the constituency.

Overall, the primary was a significant event for the NPP in the Ejisu Constituency, as it marked the selection of a candidate to represent the party in the upcoming general election. Mr. Kwabena Boateng’s victory was celebrated by supporters and party members, signaling a united front as they prepare for the electoral contest ahead.

The turnout for the primary and the competitive nature of the race demonstrate the party’s strength and commitment to democratic processes in selecting its candidates. As the election season approaches, it is crucial for the NPP to maintain this momentum and rally behind their chosen candidate to secure victory in both the parliamentary and presidential elections.

In conclusion, the successful outcome of the NPP parliamentary primary in the Ejisu Constituency sets the stage for an engaging and spirited electoral campaign. With Mr. Kwabena Boateng leading the charge, the party aims to unite its members and secure a win in the upcoming general election, carrying on the legacy of the late Dr. Ampontuah Kumah and advancing the party’s agenda for the constituency.
