Ghana: Kpeve, Fodome Ahor communities in V/R get health facilities

Two health facilities and a staff bungalow were inaugurated at Kpeve in the Afadjato South District and at Fodome Ahor in the Hohoe Municipality of the Volta Region. The ceremonies took place yesterday and were officiated by outgoing Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Mahama Asei Seini.

The health centre in Kpeve and the Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound in Fodome Ahor were part of the GHS 1.9 million projects funded by the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH). These projects aim to enhance healthcare delivery and complement the government’s efforts in providing quality healthcare to underserved communities.

Mr. Asei Seini, in his speeches at the inaugurations, highlighted the importance of strengthening primary healthcare services in line with the government’s goal of ensuring a healthy population for national development. He also mentioned the Ministry of Health’s roadmap for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and the accelerated efforts to improve access to quality essential healthcare for all residents in Ghana.

The Volta Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Chrisantus Kubio, emphasized the crucial role of development partners in capacity building, funding, equipment, and other logistics for healthcare delivery. He commended KOFIH for their significant investment in the projects and assured that the resources would not go to waste.

Country Director of KOFIH, Bomin Young, expressed satisfaction that the projects were completed on time and would provide quality healthcare to the people. He emphasized that success was not only about the construction but also about the performance of the staff working in these facilities.

District Chief Executive of Afadjato South, James Etornam Flolu, expressed optimism that the new facilities would help improve healthcare delivery in the surrounding communities. He encouraged both staff and community members to take good care of the facilities to ensure they serve many more people in the future.

Togbe Akorli lll, Dufia of Fodome Ahor, conveyed his gratitude to KOFIH for the projects, noting that they would save community members from traveling long distances for their healthcare needs.

Overall, the partnership between the government and development partners like KOFIH plays a critical role in improving healthcare services in underserved areas. The completion of these projects signifies a step forward in achieving the goals of the Universal Health Programme and ensuring access to quality healthcare for all residents in the Volta Region.
