The supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC, also known as the Porcupine Warriors, are becoming increasingly frustrated with the team’s poor performance under Head Coach Dr. Prosper Ogum. Calls for the dismissal of the coach have intensified, with some supporters even taking drastic actions to show their dissatisfaction.
At the Adako Jachie training ground, a group of supporters gathered and prevented the players and technical team from training on the pitch. The supporters, visibly upset with the team’s recent results, blocked the entrance to the pitch and initially refused to allow anyone from the team to enter.
After some persuasion from the team’s Administrative Manager, Mr. Emmanuel Dasoberi, the fans reluctantly allowed only the players to start training. However, both Dr. Ogum and his Assistant Coach, David Ocloo, were not present during the incident. Only the Team Manager and goalkeepers’ trainer were permitted to join the players on the pitch.
Nana Apinka, a member of the Interim Management’s Committee, later arrived to engage with the fans and calm the situation before the players could resume their training. The fans expressed their disappointment in the team’s performance, citing the need for a change in leadership.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC has struggled in the second round of the Ghana Premier League, winning only one match, drawing one, and losing seven out of nine games. The supporters who protested at the training ground believe that the current team does not reflect the club’s values and urged the Head Coach to step down.
The team faces a tough challenge in their upcoming match against league leaders Samartex FC at the Baba Yara Stadium. Samartex FC previously defeated Kotoko 1-0 in the first leg and are determined to continue their winning streak.
Despite the recent setbacks, the Assistant Coach remains optimistic about the team’s chances. In an interview with a local radio station, he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back and secure a victory against Samartex FC.
As tensions continue to rise within the club, the supporters are calling for swift action to address the team’s poor performance. The pressure is mounting on the coaching staff to deliver results and restore the team’s pride. Only time will tell if Asante Kotoko SC can turn their season around and regain the support of their loyal fans.
