The Judicial Service has introduced a new Court Shift System to address the backlog of pending cases in some courts. This system will operate in two sessions – a morning session from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm and an afternoon session from 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm. The goal is to make justice more accessible to citizens by offering flexible court hours that cater to diverse schedules.
The decision to implement the Court Shift System was driven by the overwhelming backlog of over 600 cases in certain courts, as highlighted by the Judicial Service. A circular issued by the Judicial Secretary, Justice Cyra Pamela C. A. Koranteng, on March 14 was followed by a press statement on March 19 by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, officially announcing the adoption of this new system.
The circular emphasized the need to address the significant caseloads across various courts nationwide. Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo expressed her hopes that the Court Shift System would lead to a noticeable reduction in case backlogs, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the judicial system.
Both the internal circular to staff and the public statement stressed the importance of the Court Shift System in streamlining court proceedings and enhancing the dispensation of justice. With its implementation, the Court Shift System represents a major step towards revitalizing the judicial landscape and ensuring equal access to justice for all.
The Court Shift System is expected to bring about positive changes in the judicial system, making it more efficient and effective. By extending court hours and accommodating different schedules, this new system aims to make justice more accessible to all citizens.
Overall, the introduction of the Court Shift System marks a significant development in the judicial sector, with the potential to address the backlog of cases and improve the overall dispensation of justice. Through this initiative, the Judicial Service is taking proactive steps to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of the justice system for the benefit of all citizens.
