The Islamic Republic of Iran recently conducted military strikes on Israeli military targets, citing its right to self-defense. In a letter dated 13 April 2024 from the Permanent Mission of Iran, signed by Ambassador Amir Saeid Iravani, the action was justified as a response to Israeli military aggressions, particularly the attack on Iranian diplomatic premises on 1st April 2024. The letter emphasized Iran’s inherent right to self-defense as outlined in Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, highlighting Israel’s disregard for international law.

The letter was also addressed to Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Ms. Vanessa Frazier, President of the Security Council. It detailed the events that led to Iran’s military strikes, including the Israeli attack on Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus, which resulted in the death of seven Iranian military advisors.

Iran expressed disappointment with the United Nations Security Council’s failure to maintain peace and security in the region, allowing Israel to violate international law and escalate tensions. Despite Iran’s commitment to upholding the principles of the UN Charter and international law, it warned against further provocations from Israel.

The statement reinforced Iran’s determination to defend its people, national security, and territorial integrity against any threats or acts of aggression. Iran made it clear that it would respond vigorously to any future military aggression by Israel, stating that its response would be stronger and more resolute in accordance with international law.

The Islamic Republic of Iran stressed that it does not seek escalation or conflict in the region but will not hesitate to exercise its right to self-defense when necessary. The statement served as a warning to Israel, indicating that any future military aggression would be met with a decisive and robust response from Iran.

In conclusion, Iran’s military strikes on Israeli military targets were carried out as a response to ongoing aggressions and violations of international law. The letter to the United Nations emphasized Iran’s commitment to peace and security while also highlighting its readiness to defend itself against any threats or acts of aggression. Iran’s stance on self-defense and its willingness to respond to further provocations from Israel were clearly outlined in the statement.
