The Islamic Charity Centre for Women Orientation (ICCWO) is a non-government organization (NGO) dedicated to the empowerment of women. Recently, the organization concluded its series of Ramadan Tafsir, which involves an explanation of Quranic verses. The event, held in Accra, emphasized the importance of women being steadfast in upholding the virtues of Islam and seeking the path of righteousness.

Hajia Malama Aida Jibriel, an Islamic scholar and leader of the Centre, delivered a passionate appeal during the Tafsir. The event brought together women from all 35 branches across the country. The theme of the Tafsir was centered around the verse from the Quran (41:46) which highlights the difference between good righteousness and evil deeds.

The Tafsir provides a platform for Muslim scholars to delve deeper into the verses of the Holy Quran, promoting a comprehensive understanding of Islamic teachings. It is a tradition that dates back to the time of the Holy Prophet of Islam, where the Quran was revealed to him over a period of 23 years. Tafsir became an annual ritual during Ramadan.

During the Tafsir gathering, prayers were offered for the peace, stability, and prosperity of the country, especially with elections approaching. The event also served as a fundraising opportunity to support the activities of the Centre, such as providing educational facilities for Muslim communities and offering skills training for women empowerment.

The gathering also saw the presence of delegations from prominent figures like the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, and the office of the former president, Mahama. Donations were made to support the Centre’s initiatives. Additionally, presentations were made on important topics like cervical cancer by Hajia IIham Mohammed Misbawu, a Physician Assistant at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. She emphasized the importance of regular check-ups and screenings for women to prevent the condition, which is a leading cause of death among women in Ghana.

Another presentation focused on child care and protection, delivered by Hajia Humu Zakari, a legal practitioner from the Attorney-General’s Department. She highlighted the criminal offense of neglecting children and urged parents to take proper care of their children.

In conclusion, the ICCWO’s Ramadan Tafsir event served as a platform for women empowerment, religious teachings, and important discussions on health and child care. The organization continues its mission to empower women and promote the values of Islam in society.
