The president of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, has expressed his confidence in the Black Queens and charged them to give their best effort to qualify for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Black Queens are just two qualifiers away from securing their first-ever Olympic Games appearance.
Ghana is set to host the Copper Queens of Zambia at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of the third-round qualifier. To show their support, the GOC president led a delegation to visit the team at the Accra Sports Stadium, encouraging them to ensure Ghana’s representation in football at the global games.
Mr. Mensah assured the team that the GOC is fully behind them and will closely follow their journey as they chase the Olympic ticket for the first time. He also revealed that the GOC had allocated $45,000 to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at the beginning of the qualifiers to support the team’s journey to the Olympic Games. An initial amount of $9,000 was advanced to the GFA, followed by a further release of $22,900, with an additional $13,200 waiting to be given out for further preparations.
Expressing his confidence in the team’s ability to overcome the Zambia hurdle, Mr. Mensah emphasized the importance of treating the upcoming game as a do-or-die affair. He stressed the significance of not missing out on the Paris Olympics Games and the impact it would have on the future of Ghanaian football.
The GOC has already prepared the team’s base in France in anticipation of their qualification for the Games. Mr. Mensah commended the spirit and effort that Coach Nora Huptle has instilled in the team, praising their endearing nature to Ghanaians. He also presented assorted bottled water to the team as a gesture of support.
Coach Nora Huptle expressed her gratitude to the GOC boss for the visit and assured him that the team would give their best effort to make Ghana proud by securing the Olympic ticket. In a preparatory game, the Black Queens defeated local club side, Berry Ladies, 2-1, further demonstrating their determination and readiness for the upcoming qualifiers.
