The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhlE) and Professor Douglas Boateng, a distinguished international chartered director and industrial engineer, have collaborated to establish a groundbreaking annual lecture series on industrialization, supply chain management, and governance. Known as “The GhIE / Professor Douglas Boateng Annual Lectures,” the event aims to promote knowledge exchange and advance the fields of industrialization, engineering, and supply chain governance not only in Ghana but across the continent.

This lecture series acknowledges Prof. Boateng’s extensive contributions to local, regional, and global industrialization, industrial engineering, procurement, and supply chain governance over several decades. The partnership with GhIE allows for the leveraging of global experience, expertise, and networks to create a platform for thought leadership and collaboration on crucial industrialization issues for Ghana, the continent, and other developing economies.

Professor Boateng emphasized the strategic importance of supply and value chain engineering and governance in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), and Africa’s Agenda 2063. He expressed his honor in joining forces with the renowned Ghana Institution of Engineering for the next five years and beyond to raise awareness of the significance of these areas.

Ing. Kwabena Bempong, President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing engineering knowledge and practice within Ghana. The establishment of the annual lecture series demonstrates the commitment to promoting excellence and driving innovation in engineering. The first GhIE / Professor Douglas Boateng Annual Lecture is set to take place in Accra on May 23, 2024. Professor Douglas Boateng will deliver the inaugural lecture to a diverse audience comprising stakeholders from academia, industry leaders, executives, politicians, government officials, and civil society groups. The event aims to explore strategies and solutions for advancing Ghana’s and the continent’s industrialization agenda.

Ing Kwabena Bempong stated that the lectures will facilitate value-driven dialogue, industrial innovation, competitiveness, and productivity improvements essential for Ghana and the broader continent’s industrialization and economic development goals.
