The Eastern Regional Director of Health Services, Dr Winfred Ofosu, emphasized the importance of prioritizing health among Ghanaians, especially the youth, in order to safeguard their lives and prevent future health issues. Speaking at the inauguration of the S.D.A College of Education (SEDACOE) Polyclinic and the re-electrification project handover, Dr Ofosu stressed the need for proactive measures to protect one’s health from potential risks.

He assured the support of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians. Dr Ofosu highlighted the launch of a Networks of Practice (NoP) by GHS, aimed at increasing access to essential healthcare services and building a network of health facilities to strengthen primary healthcare services in the country.

The GHS also pledged to collaborate closely with the SEDACOE polyclinic to ensure that the target population has access to quality essential healthcare. This collaboration is part of efforts to address systemic challenges hindering equitable healthcare delivery and to build a long-term Primary Health Care (PHC) model for Universal Health Care (UHC) in Ghana.

Daasebre Kwaku Boateng, the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area, urged institutional heads to pragmatically implement government-raised funds for developmental agendas. He emphasized the need for organizations and individuals to support the government’s efforts to develop schools and colleges in Ghana.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, applauded the Principal, Dr Cecilia Odame, for her determination in completing the project. Dr Cecilia Ofosua Odame, the Principal of the College, expressed her satisfaction with the completion of the re-electrification project, noting that it marked a significant milestone as it resolved issues related to intermittent power supply, preventing damage to electronic equipment.

Dr Odame also emphasized the importance of the newly commissioned Polyclinic in providing healthcare services to the college community. The facility features an Out Patient Department, in-patient services, a laboratory, pharmacy, Antenatal Care (ANC), and specialized clinics for eye, dental, ear, and throat care. The Polyclinic also conducts free screening exercises on a monthly basis.

Wahab Addo, the Coordinator and Head of the Polyclinic MLS, appealed to corporate organizations and philanthropists to support the college in providing quality healthcare services to the people. He highlighted the importance of external support in ensuring the success and sustainability of the healthcare services offered by the college’s Polyclinic.

In conclusion, the call to prioritize health, the support of the Ghana Health Service, and the collaborative efforts to provide essential healthcare services reflect the commitment of various stakeholders toward promoting the health and well-being of the Ghanaian population. These initiatives aim to address existing challenges and build a sustainable model for Universal Health Care in the region.
