Torgbui Kpemini Gawu V, a peace activist and chief of Anlo, emphasized the importance of conducting credible and impartial elections to ensure that the results are acceptable to all parties involved. In an interview with the Ghanaian Times, he urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to implement measures such as erecting electronic scoreboards in all regions of Ghana to prevent potential litigations after the 2024 December polls.

According to Togbui Gawu V, the electronic scoreboards would allow stakeholders to monitor election results in real time and independently verify the outcome. He also stressed the need for the EC to apply electoral rules fairly and without bias to maintain the integrity of the electoral process.

Highlighting the high stakes involved for the two major political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Torgbui Gawu V cautioned that the competition between the ruling party and the opposition party could lead to tensions. While the NPP seeks to extend their stay in power, the NDC, led by a former President, aims to make a comeback.

Torgbui Gawu V called on supporters of both parties to conduct themselves responsibly before, during, and after the polls to ensure peace and stability, particularly in the Anlo land. He emphasized the importance of embracing peace and avoiding actions that could incite violence and disrupt the democratic process.

Assuring his continued commitment to promoting peace through radio talk shows, media interviews, and public engagements, Torgbui Gawu V reminded Ghanaians that the power to choose their representatives in Parliament and the President lies in the hands of the voters. He noted that conflicts often arise during the counting of ballots, leading to mistrust and disagreements, which can escalate into political violence if not addressed promptly.

Torgbui Gawu V also warned against taunting or provoking losers, as such behavior could fuel tensions and contribute to political unrest. He stressed the importance of maintaining respect and civility throughout the electoral process to prevent any form of violence or conflict.

In conclusion, Torgbui Gawu V’s advocacy for peaceful elections and his calls for transparency, fairness, and non-partisanship in the electoral process are essential for fostering trust, credibility, and stability in Ghana’s democracy. By heeding his advice and working together to uphold democratic principles, Ghanaians can ensure a peaceful and successful electoral outcome in the upcoming polls.
