The Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, recently launched an initiative called ‘Leading Justice’, which aims to improve legality, ethics, assets, digitalization, and due process in justice delivery across the country. This initiative is groundbreaking as it is the first time a Chief Justice has taken such a step to enhance justice delivery nationwide.

Justice Torkornoo outlined her vision of using technology and digitalization to make justice more accessible to the people. Through the ‘Leading Justice’ framework, she hopes to leverage technological advancements to streamline court processes and make justice delivery more efficient.

The launch event was attended by various dignitaries, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Attorney General and Minister of Justice Mr. Godfred Yeboah, and President of the Ghana Bar Association Mr. Yaw Acheampong Boafo, among others. The Chief Justice expressed gratitude to her predecessors and promised to build upon the foundation they laid.

In her address, Justice Torkornoo emphasized the importance of expediting the national digitalization agenda to facilitate better networking among stakeholders. She called for increased budgetary allocations to the judiciary to improve infrastructure and advance the automation and digitalization agenda. By leveraging technology, she believes that court processes and administration can be made more efficient.

Furthermore, Justice Torkornoo stressed the need for enhanced accountability within the judiciary. She proposed increasing transparency in the publication of judgments and decisions, especially in critical areas like land ownership, to promote economic and social stability. The Chief Justice also highlighted the importance of engaging external stakeholders, such as auctioneers, valuers, and surveyors, to ensure the quality of justice delivery.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia commended Justice Torkornoo’s dynamic leadership, noting that her initiatives would lead to more efficient justice delivery. He highlighted the significance of digitalization in combating corruption, citing the example of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust saving millions through eliminating ghost names using technology.

Overall, the launch of the ‘Leading Justice’ initiative marks a pivotal moment in Ghana’s legal landscape, signaling a commitment to improve justice delivery through technology and innovation.
