Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, recently outlined about thirty initiatives that he has promised and fulfilled during his tenure in office over the past seven years. Speaking at an event with traders’ associations and magazine leaders in Sunyani, in the Bono Ahafo Region, he cautioned against voting for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Bawumia emphasized his track record of delivering on promises and expressed confidence in his achievements despite not holding the position of President.
“When I said we would roll out the Ghana Card, we delivered. When I promised that children would be issued with the Ghana Card at birth, it became a reality. The digital address system that I pledged was fulfilled,” said Bawumia, highlighting some of the key initiatives he has successfully implemented during his time in office.
In addition, Bawumia mentioned the introduction of a paperless port, the implementation of Zipline’s drone delivery of medicines in Ghana, and the removal of ghost names from the government payroll as other promises that have been fulfilled under his leadership. He reiterated his commitment to delivering on his promises and making tangible improvements in various sectors of the economy.
Recently, Dr. Bawumia raised concerns about the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) engaging in the harassment of businesses under the guise of tax collection. These remarks were made during a dialogue with members of the Ghana Chamber of Commerce and Industry as part of the manifesto committee’s efforts to gather input for the upcoming 2024 elections.
Bawumia attributed the issue to the GRA’s policy of setting unattainable targets for its officers, which leads to excessive taxation on businesses. He called for a review of the GRA’s practices to ensure fair and transparent tax collection without burdening businesses with unnecessary taxes.
Overall, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s speech highlighted his administration’s achievements and commitment to fulfilling promises made to the Ghanaian people. With a strong focus on delivering tangible results and addressing key challenges facing the country, Bawumia emphasized the importance of effective governance and accountability in driving sustainable development and growth. As Ghana prepares for the 2024 elections, the Vice President’s track record of achievement and dedication to improving the lives of citizens will likely be key factors in shaping the political landscape in the coming years.
