The Asantehene has expressed his anger at Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI for causing unnecessary tension ahead of Asante’s 150th Sagrenti War anniversary and his 25th coronation celebration. It seems that the Asantehene prefers Manhyia and the Golden Stool to stay clear of partisan politics.
Nana Kofi Owusu, the Chief Linguist of Otumfuo, instructed the NPP led by Justin Frimpong Kodua during a meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Manhyia Palace to present Chairman Wontumi before the Asanteman Council within a week, despite any health concerns Chairman Wontumi may have, in response to alleged derogatory comments made about Asanteman.
The NPP delegation, including Justin Frimpong Kodua and Henry Nana Boakye, sought leniency for Chairman Wontumi before the Asanteman Council. However, the Kumasi Traditional Council’s meeting with Chairman Wontumi on January 29, 2024, has been cancelled in light of these developments.
The Asantehene’s frustration with the unnecessary tension created by Bantamahene Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI points to a desire for peace and unity in the region. The Asantehene’s preference for keeping Manhyia and the Golden Stool out of partisan politics indicates a commitment to the traditional and cultural significance of the Asante kingdom.
It is evident that the Asantehene values the dignity and respect of Asanteman, and he expects all individuals, regardless of their political affiliations, to show reverence and uphold the honor of the kingdom. The cancellation of the meeting with Chairman Wontumi signifies the seriousness with which the Asantehene regards the alleged derogatory comments and the need to address them appropriately.
In conclusion, the Asantehene’s stance on the recent developments reflects his dedication to preserving the traditional values and integrity of the Asante kingdom, and his commitment to ensuring that peace and unity prevail in the region.
