Alfred Kotey Ashie emerged as the winner of the NDC’s parliamentary primary election for the Odododiodioo Constituency. He secured 1209 votes, defeating his contender, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, who secured 952 votes out of a total of 2161 votes cast.

The election was not without controversy as a disqualified candidate, Michael Nii Yarboi Annan, filed an interlocutory injunction application to challenge his disqualification by the party’s Functional Executive Committee. However, the Accra High Court dismissed his application, paving the way for the resumption of the electoral process.

Annan had been disqualified from participating in the parliamentary election for the Odododiodioo Constituency based on findings by a special committee established by the Functional Executive Committee of the party. The committee concluded that Annan did not meet the qualification criteria outlined in Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, which stipulates that a member must be an active party member at the constituency level for the four years immediately preceding the date of filing nominations.

Initially, the court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate led to the indefinite postponement of the primary. However, with the court’s dismissal, the NDC proceeded with the primary, and Alfred Kotey Ashie emerged as the winner and secured the party’s parliamentary candidacy. This electoral victory positions him to represent the NDC in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The win for Alfred Kotey Ashie in the NDC’s primary election marks a significant milestone in his political career and sets the stage for the upcoming parliamentary elections. His victory reflects the support and confidence of the party members in his ability to represent their interests and champion their causes in the constituency.
