The Akwamuhene, and President of the Akwamu Traditional Council, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, recently conducted a working visit to the Akosombo Industrial Company Limited (AICL) (formerly known as Akosombo Textiles Limited) to familiarize himself with their operations and stay updated on their developments and investments.
During the visit, Odeneho and his entourage had an extensive tour of the Akosombo Textiles factory. They inspected the recently installed machinery and were particularly impressed by the company’s commitment to sustainability by installing a biomass boiler to generate steam for production activities. Odeneho commended the management for opting for an environmentally friendly option to power their operations.
One of the highlights of the visit was the stop at the newly installed state-of-the-art printing machine. The factory manager, Mr. Kenneth Asare, informed Odeneho that the machine had the capacity to produce over one million yards of textiles per month, with a product quality that would enable them to compete effectively both locally and internationally.
In a meeting held at the factory to wrap up the tour, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III expressed his appreciation for the progress made by the company. Despite acknowledging the challenges faced, he urged all stakeholders to support the management team in restoring Akosombo Textiles to its former glory.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AICL, Mr. Kofi Boateng, also expressed his gratitude to Odeneho and his entourage for the visit and constant support and encouragement. He reassured everyone of the management’s dedication to the growth and sustainability of the business, as well as working collaboratively with the workers’ union to address any pending issues.
Members of staff, union executives, and management were present at the interaction and meeting with Odeneho and his entourage. It was a fruitful exchange of ideas and a commitment to moving the company forward.
Established in 1967, Akosombo Industrial Company Limited has been a pioneer in the modern textile industry in Ghana. With a well-equipped factory in Akosombo and offices in Accra, the company has played a significant role in the textile sector’s development in the country.
