In his address at the opening of the second edition of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues at Peduase in the Eastern Region on Thursday, January 25, 2024, President Akufo-Addo expressed his belief that Africa has the potential to become a global powerhouse in the future. He emphasized that Africa is not a poor continent but is instead blessed with an abundance of natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals, and arable land, as well as a youthful population. This, he believes, positions the continent to transform itself into a global powerhouse.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the fact that Africa has the potential to feed 9 billion people globally by 2030 with 65 percent of all arable land available. He also pointed out that Africa has the most youthful population in the world, setting the stage for a demographic dividend. He emphasized the need for economic transformation and integration, stating that the private sector is ready to see the dream of a united Africa materialize through the African Continental Free Trade Area. He stressed that the focus should be on facilitating the free movement of people, goods, and services across Africa.
The President called on all stakeholders to contribute to the collective dream of building a stronger Africa, while expressing his privilege to host the dialogue. His optimism about Africa’s future is fueled by the private sector’s readiness for economic cooperation through the free trade agreement.
