Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the newly installed Majority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Majority and Minority caucuses in driving the agenda of Parliament. He stressed that bipartisan efforts are essential for the Ghanaian citizens to benefit from legislative outcomes.

In his inaugural address to the Parliament, Afenyo-Markin extended a hand of cooperation to his fellow parliamentarians from the opposite side and pledged his commitment to promoting unity and peace within the legislature. He emphasized the need for members to prioritize the welfare of the people above political gains, especially in an election year.

Highlighting the significance of collaboration and putting the welfare of the people at the forefront of their actions, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of unity in realizing their roles as lawmakers and fulfilling the mandate entrusted to them by the people of Ghana. He urged his colleagues to avoid politicizing every issue and to strive towards building consensus for national development.

Meanwhile, the outgoing majority leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, expressed his support for his successor and the new leadership. He underscored the importance of unity within the caucus for the success of parliament and government operations. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu announced his resignation as majority leader and encouraged his colleagues to support his successor in fulfilling the governance agenda.

On the other hand, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, bid farewell to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and urged him to share his wealth of experience with members of the legislature. He expressed readiness to work with the new majority leadership, including Patricia Appiagyei, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Habib Iddrisu, and Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, in advancing the interests of the people.

In conclusion, Afenyo-Markin’s call for collaboration, unity, and bipartisanship in Parliament sets a positive tone for the legislative agenda. As lawmakers, it is crucial for them to work together towards the common goal of serving the people and promoting national development. By prioritizing the welfare of the citizens and focusing on unity, the Parliament can effectively fulfill its responsibilities and contribute to the betterment of Ghana as a whole.
