The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Accra 2023 African Games recently conducted a Games awareness campaign in Kumasi as part of their efforts to promote the event scheduled to take place from March 8-23.

The LOC partnered with the J.A Kufour Cup, where Asante Kotoko emerged victorious after defeating Nsoatreman. They actively participated in promoting the event during the Cup, using the platform to announce the preparations for the Games.

To increase visibility of the event in the region, the LOC sponsored over 10,000 Senior High School (SHS) students from the Ashanti region to attend the historic match. Each student was presented with Games T-shirts, creating excitement and anticipation for the upcoming event.

In addition to sponsoring the students, the LOC also sponsored the Player of the Match award, presenting a beautiful trophy to Steven Mukwala of Asante Kotoko, who scored the winning goal for the Porcupine Warriors.

Dr. Kwaku Ofosu Asare, Executive Chairman of the LOC, spoke to the media about the importance of the event and the need to raise awareness in Kumasi and other regions to give the Games a national dimension. He extended an official invitation to the people of Kumasi and other regions to participate in and support the competition.

Dr. Ofosu Asare emphasized the significance of the African Games on the continent’s sporting calendar, highlighting that over 50 countries and 7,000 participants are expected to take part in the event. He stressed the importance of national support for such a prestigious sporting event.

The LOC’s involvement in the J.A Kufour Cup not only promoted the African Games but also engaged the local community and created excitement among students and sports fans in Kumasi. By sponsoring students and presenting awards, the LOC effectively raised awareness and generated interest in the upcoming event.

The Games awareness campaign in Kumasi was a success, with the LOC actively engaging with the community and promoting participation in the Accra 2023 African Games. With the support of the people of Kumasi and other regions, the upcoming event is poised to be a significant and successful sporting competition on the continent.
