The Second Annual Northern Trade Industry and Investment Summit kicked off on Friday in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital, under the theme: “Enhancing Trade and Industries In Northern Ghana Through Capacity Development And Strategic Investment.” Hosted by the Centre for Policy Development (CPD), the summit aims to provide a strong platform for businesses to enhance their capabilities across various sectors of trade and industries in Northern Ghana.
The Chief Executive Officer of Northern Development Authority (NDA), Mr. Sulley Sambian, inaugurated the summit and urged stakeholders in the northern ecological zone to drive accelerated economic development in Northern Ghana. He emphasized the importance of thriving industries and Foreign Direct Investments in creating jobs that can improve human livelihood. Mr. Sambian also highlighted that the objectives of the Northern Trade, Industry, and Investment Summit align with the strategic plans of the NDA.
In his address, Mr. Sambian mentioned the 5-Year Medium Term Development Strategy (MTDS) launched in 2022, focusing on stimulating private sector initiatives in Northern Ghana to achieve sustainable economic growth and job creation. This strategy aims to uplift the living standards of the people in Northern Ghana through increased trade and investments.
The NDA CEO underscored the significance of trade and investments as crucial elements for development in Northern Ghana. He welcomed the partnership with the CPD and emphasized the Authority’s commitment to collaborating with like-minded organizations and Development Partners to promote a vibrant private sector in the region. Mr. Sambian called for constructive dialogue, collaboration, and engagement from partners and agencies to realize the objectives of the summit.
Executive Director of the CPD, Mr. Ismail Yahuza, highlighted the need to bridge the gap between the northern and southern regions in terms of trade and industries. The annual summit aims to champion and promote trade and industry in Northern Ghana. Mr. Yahuza urged traditional authorities, youth groups, stakeholders, and business individuals in the region to support the initiative.
