The 14th Happy 98.9 FM/Lakeside Marina Park was filled with excitement and energy as runners from all over the country came together to celebrate Ghana’s 67th Independence Day with a sense of unity. This annual event, known as the Happy FM/Lakeside Marina Park Run/Walk, is a 6KM and 10KM run organized by two brands to commemorate Ghana’s Independence Day, promote family bonding, and raise funds to support the Mercy Social Centre.
The run, which is also a charitable event, donates a quarter of all proceeds to the Mercy Social Centre to help children in their care. Participants had the option of running either a 6km or 10km route within the Lakeside Estates-Ashaley Botwe in the Adentan Municipality. This event was more than just a race, it provided families with an opportunity to bond and create new relationships.
Before the run began, participants engaged in a warm-up session led by Emmagee Fitness to get their blood flowing and prepare them for the race. With excellent security and guides along the routes, runners were able to cover the distances smoothly, with hydration stations providing them with water along the way.
Nana Kwaku Akwankye emerged as the Fastest Man of the day with a time of 22 minutes and 41 seconds, while Rosemary Boakyewaa was named the Fastest Woman with a time of 27 minutes and 24 seconds. In the juvenile category, Shik Abubakar and Humul Kassumi Abdallah won the Fastest Male and Female child categories respectively. The Mercy Social Center school teams were the Fastest School Team in both junior and senior categories.
The Sobo family took home the ultimate prize for the Fastest Family category with an impressive average time of 33 minutes and 1 second. The oldest couple in the run, William Steel (81 years) and Adjoa Steel (80 years), also caught the attention of many participants.
CEO of Global Media Alliance Group, Ernest Boateng, emphasized the importance of family bonding and relationships in today’s fast-paced society. He commended all families for participating in the event and urged more families to engage in similar activities in the future.
Salah Kwaku Kalmoni, Director of Lakeside Estates, highlighted the charitable aspect of the run, mentioning that a quarter of the proceeds would support children at the Mercy Social Centre. He encouraged philanthropists and individuals to continue supporting the center.
Winners of the run received amazing prizes from sponsors like Blueskies, Japan Motors, Lakeside Estate, and others. Dosh Insurance provided the top five winners with the DOSH Combo, an insurance package valued at GHc 19,500.
Overall, the Happy FM/Lakeside Marina Park Run/Walk was a successful event that brought families together, promoted unity, and raised funds for a worthy cause. Participants and supporters alike left with a sense of accomplishment and pride in contributing to the community.
