The President of the Ghana Badminton Association (GBA), Mr Evans Yeboah, is confident that Team Ghana is well-prepared to compete at the 13th African Games, scheduled to start on March 8. A total of 23 countries will be vying for medals in badminton and a chance to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Among the participating countries are Benin, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, Kenya, Eritrea, Djibouti, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa, Seychelles, Mauritius, DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, and Ghana.
In an interview with the Times Sports, Mr Yeboah expressed confidence in Team Ghana’s readiness to compete against the best in Africa. He mentioned that the team consists of both local and foreign players who have been training rigorously to deliver their best performances on the international stage. The morale among the players is high, and the team has been provided with adequate resources, including access to a psychologist, to ensure they are mentally prepared to win medals.
Fourteen players are currently training at the National Badminton Centre in Tema, all eager to make their nation proud. Mr Yeboah also revealed that he has personally pledged additional funds for any player who manages to secure a medal at the competition. Training facilities and other resources have been optimized, and both the players and technical team have high expectations for the upcoming games.
Mr Yeboah emphasized that Ghana is ready to take on the challenges ahead, with some players boasting significant experience on the international stage. The goal is to secure a place in the medal zone and make a strong impact at the African Games. He urged fans and families to show their support by attending the venues and cheering for Team Ghana.
