The Chairman of the Transportation Sub-Committee for the 13th African Games (Accra 2023), Local Organising Committee (LOC), Mr. Samson Deen, has emphasized the importance of providing adequate and accessible transportation for members of the public to all the venues of the games.

Mr. Deen has assured that there will be around 50 ‘Aayalolo’ buses designated specifically for transporting fans to various game venues such as the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra Sports Stadium, Borteyman, and the Trust Sports Emporium (Bukom Arena). These buses will operate from a Transport Mall at the entrance of the Legon Games Village, with buses departing every 10 minutes to transport fans to the venues.

In an interview with Times Sports, Mr. Deen outlined the measures that have been put in place to ensure smooth transportation of fans to the venues. He also urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations to ensure the efficient movement of guests, athletes, officials, and fans.

While addressing the challenge of motorists potentially hindering the smooth movement of designated vehicles, Mr. Deen reiterated the importance of abiding by rules and regulations to ensure the success of the event, emphasizing that the African Games are an event for all Ghanaians and the African continent.

In addition to vehicles for fans, Mr. Deen announced that a total of 332 vehicles have been secured to cater to guests, media, athletes, and officials from the 54 participating countries. Specifically, 54 4×4 land cruiser vehicles will be provided for ministers or state officials representing each country, with additional vehicles allocated to the 29 sports federations.

Furthermore, dedicated vehicles will be provided for the Technical Committee members of the African Games (TCAG), which include the African Union and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), as well as other stakeholders. Athletes and officials will have dedicated vehicles for training, venue transportation, and accommodation.

Each Chef de Mission will have a dedicated transport vehicle, with personalized mini buses (shuttle vehicles) for each country, visibly branded with their names. Additionally, media personnel and over 2,000 volunteers will be assigned vehicles for their transportation needs.

Hotels such as Movenpick, Kempinski, Labadi Beach Hotel, and Accra City Hotels will have special vehicles to transport guests to their respective destinations. Visiting officials from the International Olympic Committee, the Confederation of African Football, and other organizations will also be provided with dedicated vehicles, along with delivery trucks, ambulances, and medical vehicles for the Games.

Mr. Deen urged all stakeholders to cooperate with the transport arrangements to avoid any potential chaos that could arise if traffic is not managed effectively during the games. The commitment to providing comprehensive transportation services reflects the LOC’s dedication to ensuring a successful and seamless experience for all participants and spectators during the 13th African Games in Accra 2023.
