The Managing Director of Garissa Water and Sewerage Company, Dolal Mohamed Mohamud, was arrested by officials from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on suspicion of falsifying his academic certificate. It is alleged that Mr. Mohamud forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Certificate to secure admission into the University of Nairobi.

According to the commission’s spokesperson, Eric Ngumbi, Mr. Mohamud is believed to have scored a Grade D in his KCSE, but his forged certificate indicated a Grade C+. As a result, the commission plans to recover all the salaries and benefits that Mr. Mohamud has earned based on the invalid academic qualifications obtained using the fake certificate.

Mr. Mohamud is currently being held at Garissa Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Friday.

The arrest of the managing director has raised concerns about the integrity of academic qualifications and the potential impact of such falsifications on the professional world. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of using fraudulent means to obtain education and employment opportunities.

The case serves as a cautionary tale for individuals who may be tempted to falsify their academic credentials for personal gain. Ensuring the legitimacy of academic qualifications is crucial for maintaining the credibility and integrity of educational institutions and the professional workforce.

The EACC’s swift action in investigating and apprehending Mr. Mohamud demonstrates their commitment to combating corruption and upholding the rule of law. It also sends a strong message that fraudulent activities, especially those related to academic qualifications, will not be tolerated.
