Vice President Muhammed BS Jallow recently provided an update on the progress of implementing the resolutions put forth by the National Assembly Committee on Finance and Public Accounts Committee (FPAC) regarding the 2019 audit accounts of Government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
Regarding Resolution 1, the VP mentioned that FPAC is in communication with the Accountant General to address any definitive defaults that may arise. In the case of Resolution 2, it was highlighted that the resolution is a replication of a previous one from September 18th, but the Accountant General is actively working on reconciliations with FPAC involved in the process.
Moving on to Resolution 3, the VP mentioned the development of a draft bill that has been submitted to the cabinet. For Resolutions 4 and 5, it was pointed out that any discrepancies of a criminal or fraudulent nature are promptly reported by the National Audit Office to the Inspector General of Police, eliminating the need for further action on these matters.
Resolution 6 was noted as a replication of a previous resolution from September 18th, while Resolution 7 was described as an ongoing process with confirmation of adjustments to be made by the National Audit Office in future government audits.
Addressing Resolution 8, the VP highlighted the involvement of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs in grant negotiations. Resolution 9 emphasized the mandatory use of the IFMIS system for all government projects’ accounting processes by the end of the financial year.
The VP stressed the government’s recognition of the importance of using the IFMIS system for project accounting processes and confirmed that the Accountant General is actively engaging with MDAs to ensure compliance with the system.
The commitment of the government to implementing the resolutions and cooperating with FPAC was reiterated. Despite pending submissions from some institutions, the VP expressed confidence in persuading them to fully cooperate with FPAC.
In conclusion, it was emphasized that the government is dedicated to fulfilling the resolutions set by the National Assembly and is working diligently towards their effective implementation. Collaboration with FPAC and ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with the IFMIS system for government projects were highlighted as key priorities for the government moving forward.
