Dozens of Tallinding residents are currently seeking compensation from the government following the demolition of their compounds. The government came to demolish these compounds as part of the Jeshwang-Tallinding Road construction project back in March of last year. Haddy Njie, one of the victims, explained that her fence was demolished during this process, leading to the destruction of her properties due to heavy rain.
Despite the passage of time since the demolition, the government has yet to take any steps towards compensating the affected residents. Haddy emphasized the urgency of the situation as the rainy season approaches, expressing concern over potential disasters similar to those experienced last year. She stressed the challenges faced by herself and others in the community, especially as they are now left without proper fencing which makes them vulnerable to security threats such as armed robbery.
The residents are calling on the government to provide compensation as a means of assistance during this difficult time. Haddy highlighted the need for immediate action, stating that the situation is dire and that they are struggling to meet basic needs such as feeding their families. She also pointed out that the government should have considered alternative options before carrying out the demolition, as leaving their properties open without fences poses serious safety risks.
Another resident, Binta Darboe, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the dangers they now face due to the lack of proper security measures following the demolition. She urged the government to address the situation promptly to prevent further harm, especially with the rainy season fast approaching.
Tijan Bah, another affected resident, shared his frustration over the lack of progress in resolving the issue. Despite providing the necessary information to the government, no concrete solutions have been offered, leaving him and his family living in uncertainty and vulnerability. He called for immediate action, expressing his disappointment and stress as a family man.
In conclusion, the residents of Tallinding are in a precarious situation following the demolition of their compounds, with their plea for compensation falling on deaf ears thus far. The government is urged to act swiftly to address this pressing issue before any further harm is done to the affected families. With the rainy season looming, the need for immediate assistance and resolution is paramount to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents in this community.
