The Caf African Schools Football Championship (“ASFC”) WAFU A qualifiers recently wrapped up on Sunday, 3 March with Senegal and Gambia emerging victorious in the boys and girls divisions, respectively. The three-day youth football competition took place at Mauritania’s Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya in Nouakchott from 01 – 03 March 2024, providing a platform for young learners to showcase their talent against their peers.

In the Boys U15 category, Senegal secured the title after competing against Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, Mauritania, and Senegal. On the other hand, the Girls U15 title was won by Gambia, who went up against Cape Verde, Gambia, Guinea, and Senegal in the competition.

The conclusion of the WAFU A edition signifies that the CAF competition is moving closer to the finals, where winners from different CAF Zones will compete for the ultimate prize at a date yet to be announced. Apart from offering a platform for youngsters to demonstrate their skills on an international level, CAF also organized various capacity-building programs during the competition. These programs included CAF D License Coaching Course, Leadership Program, CAF Safeguarding Program, Young Reporters Program, and Young Referees Program. These initiatives align with the core values of the competition, aiming to nurture future African leaders.

The CAF African Schools Football Champions is a groundbreaking event in world football, engaging around 800,000 young African boys and girls in its second season. The upcoming Zonal qualifiers leading to the Finals will head to the UNIFFAC Zone, and the details regarding dates and venues will be communicated in due course.
