The nationwide football bonanza has come to a temporary halt during the holy month of Ramadan after an intense competition that captivated audiences across the country. The President Barrow peace tournament, which saw teams from various regions competing, has crowned champions in almost all areas of the country.
The tournament was structured into two main categories: rural and urban. The rural category included regions such as URR, CRR South, CRR North, LRR, and NBR, while the urban regions consisted of Banjul, KM, and West Coast.
In the CRR South region, the footballers from Niamina West emerged victorious, while in URR, Wuli East teams claimed the championship title. Jarra West triumphed in the LRR category, and Niani secured the top spot in CRR North. Additionally, Upper Niumi footballers clinched the title in the NBR region.
The urban competition was equally fierce, with teams from Foni Berefet winning the West Coast title and Banjul Central 1 emerging as champions in Banjul. The KM championship is currently at the semifinal stage, with Latrikunda facing Ebo Town and Jeshwang meeting Serekunda in the upcoming matches.
Tournament coordinator Ebrima Manneh commended the 60 participating teams, regional officials, and stakeholders like the Gambia Football Federation for their commitment and support towards the successful organization of the competition.
Presidential Adviser and chairman of the organizing committee, Saihou Mballow, highlighted that the tournament was initiated by President Barrow with the aim of promoting peace and unity among the Gambian people through the platform of football.
The tournament has not only provided a platform for football enthusiasts to showcase their talents but has also fostered camaraderie and sportsmanship among communities across the country. The break during Ramadan allows players and spectators to observe the holy month before returning to the pitch to continue the competition.
As the competition resumes after Ramadan, excitement and anticipation are running high as teams gear up to battle it out for the ultimate prize. The President Barrow peace tournament has not only brought communities together through the love of football but has also emphasized the importance of unity and peace in the country.
Overall, the tournament has been a resounding success, serving as a testament to the power of sports in promoting harmony and cohesion within society. The continued support and dedication of all involved have contributed to making the President Barrow peace tournament a significant event in the Gambian sporting calendar.
