Real de Banjul Football Club recently completed a five-week pilot program that saw twelve young players housed at its Kerr Real headquarters as boarding students. This initiative was created by the club’s management as a novel approach to developing young talent, and it met with resounding success. Three of the players who participated in the camp made a significant impact on the pitch, scoring a total of five goals in five out of Real de Banjul’s last six matches. Baboucarr Touray scored two goals, while Alasana Badjie and Abdurahman Badamosi each scored two and one goal, respectively.
Club President William Abraham expressed his gratitude towards the technical director, Pa Suwareh Faye, and Coach Lamin Kijera for their excellent work with the twelve players during the camp. He also commended the players for their patience and discipline, noting that there were no reports of misbehavior or negative attitudes, indicating that the club’s objectives were being met.
Vice President Pa Yusufa Samba encouraged the players to continue practicing the good habits they learned during the camp and emphasized that the coaches would be keeping an eye on their progress even after the program had ended.
Legendary player and former coach Bye Malleh Wadda highlighted the importance of taking football as a career and preparing oneself for opportunities when they arise. He praised Real de Banjul for providing top facilities, coaches, and opportunities for Gambian players, with this camp being just one example of their commitment to player development. Wadda urged the young players to seize the opportunities presented to them and to make the most of them in their careers.
