The Medical and Dental Association of The Gambia, under the leadership of Dr. Lamin E.S. Jaiteh, recently had a courtesy call with His Excellency President Adama Barrow. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the functions and challenges faced by the Association.
One of the main challenges highlighted during the meeting was the welfare of doctors and healthcare workers. Dr. Jaiteh emphasized the importance of considering the well-being of medical professionals in order to enhance work efficiency and the quality of service delivery.
President Barrow expressed his deep appreciation for the Association and stated that his government is focused on improving healthcare for the citizens of The Gambia. This aligns with the vision of the Medical and Dental Association, which seeks to promote high standards of practice and enhance the welfare of medical and dental professionals.
Given the government’s commitment to investing more in the health sector, President Barrow advised the Association to provide a detailed write-up on their needs and areas where government intervention is required. He also urged members of the Council to work together towards achieving the highest level of health for the people of The Gambia, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Health Coverage.
The Association serves as a platform for collaboration and discussion on medical guidelines for patient care. It also acts as an advisor to both government and non-governmental organizations involved in healthcare.
President Barrow’s administration has been actively engaging in partnerships with stakeholders to strengthen the country’s healthcare delivery system. He acknowledged the crucial role played by the Medical and Dental Association and assured continuous support for the Association and the health sector as a whole.
Established in 1980, the Association was formed with the aim of promoting professional standards and improving the welfare of medical and dental professionals. The Vice President, Dr. Kebba Marenah, Secretary General Dr. Ousman Leigh, and Dr. Masirending Njie were also present during the courtesy call with President Barrow.
