Easter Greetings to All the Faithful Members of the Anglican Diocese of Gambia, Home & Abroad, as well as Our Friends and Partners in Mission & Ministry. As we celebrate Easter, it is important to remember that the story of the resurrection is not just a feature of the Gospels, but the central theme of the Good News of Jesus Christ. The resurrection is the foundation of our faith, as without it, our preaching would be useless and our faith in vain.
The Gospel of St. Mark tells the story of the women who went to the tomb early in the morning, showcasing their devotion and loyalty to Jesus. The women were met by a young man who told them that Jesus had risen. They had come to anoint a dead body but found that Jesus was alive. This serves as a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, Jesus offers us hope and joy. Just as the women went looking for Jesus, we too must seek Him in our times of despair.
The women were given the task of spreading the news of Jesus’ resurrection to the disciples and Peter. The special mention of Peter shows that even after denying Jesus, he could still be reconciled and forgiven. Jesus’ resurrection was a demonstration of forgiveness and reconciliation for all of mankind. The charge given to the women is also given to us today – to go and proclaim that Jesus Christ is risen.
This Easter, we are reminded of our duty as Christians to share the Good News of the resurrection and the forgiveness of sins. We are called to live out the message of forgiveness in our interactions with others, especially those who have wronged us. The recent Service of Holy Chrism demonstrated the clergy’s commitment to servant leadership, following the example of Christ in serving their congregation.
As we celebrate Easter, we are also mindful of the holy month of Ramadan for our Muslim brothers and sisters. This period of forgiveness, empathy, and generosity highlights the harmony between different faiths in our country. The unique blend of religious tolerance and harmony should not be taken for granted, as it is a rare and precious gift. We commend the President and his government for their dedication to peace and unity in the Gambia.
In conclusion, Easter serves as a reminder of the power of forgiveness, reconciliation, and unity. As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, let us also strive to emulate His example of love and service to others. May this Easter season be a time of renewal and hope for all.
