The National Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) task force recently conducted a cleaning exercise in preparation for the 15th edition of the Islamic Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit. The event, scheduled for May this year, is set to take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre. The cleaning exercise focused on areas such as the Airport premises, Old Yundum, Lamin Market, and Abuko abattoir to ensure that the country is in a clean and presentable state for the summit.
Nfally Fadera, the OIC Gambia Head of Brand and Communication, emphasized the national significance of the summit, stating that the cleaning exercise was essential to showcase The Gambia in a befitting state. He highlighted the importance of a national approach to hosting the summit and encouraged communities to continue taking up responsibilities to maintain cleanliness in the country. Fadera assured communities that the task force is committed to supporting any community that wishes to conduct similar cleaning activities.
Mr. Sulayman Jatta, the Deputy Director of the GCCA, expressed delight at working closely with the OIC and emphasized that the success of the summit should be credited to the entire nation. He stressed the importance of taking ownership of the event and working together to ensure its success.
Sheikh Alkinki Sanyang, Head of Communication NEA, underscored the importance of maintaining a clean environment to uphold the nation’s reputation. He emphasized the need to prevent the country from becoming an eyesore by conducting regular cleaning exercises. Sanyang announced that six more cleaning exercises are planned ahead of the Summit to further enhance cleanliness in the country.
Chairman of the National Tasks Force, Borri Mansa Demba, highlighted the competitive nature of hosting the OIC Summit, noting that previous summits have been held in various countries. He emphasized the importance of portraying The Gambia in the best possible light and ensuring that the country is well-prepared to host such a prestigious event.
