Arfang M.S. Camara, Communications Officer for the National Roads Authority (NRA), reported on the progress of the ongoing construction of the 50km Urban Road projects. The Managing Director of the NRA, Mr. Ousman Sanyang, expressed his commitment to completing several roads as quickly as possible during a visit to the construction sites on Thursday, 28th March 2024.
Accompanied by the consultant (PACE/GAMECS JV) and the contractor (SSTP, CSE, and AL-FAD JV) of the Lot 1 projects, Mr. Sanyang visited eight construction areas under Lot 1. The tour started at various road projects including P16, P2, P19, P1, P3, P15, P12, and P10, assessing the progress and challenges faced in each location.
Mr. Sanyang acknowledged the overall progress of the ongoing constructions but emphasized the need to accelerate the work to complete some roads before the rainy season. He expressed satisfaction with the level of progress and announced his plan to conduct monthly site visits to inspect and monitor the works.
The Managing Director highlighted the challenges faced in urban construction projects, such as existing built environments encroaching on the highway, service relocations, and clearing the right of way for the contractor to start work. He emphasized the importance of concentrating on one area at a time to minimize disruption to residents and ensure a habitable environment during construction.
Mr. Sanyang, an experienced Chartered Transport Planner and Engineer, stressed the significance of providing access to properties and constructing footways to enhance the usability and safety of the roads. He emphasized the need to consider the well-being of residents affected by the construction and minimize any inconvenience caused during the process.
The visit to the construction sites aimed to assess the progress, identify challenges, and ensure that the projects are on track for timely completion. Mr. Sanyang’s hands-on approach and commitment to regular site visits demonstrate the NRA’s dedication to delivering quality infrastructure projects for the benefit of the public.
As the construction continues, the NRA remains focused on overcoming challenges, ensuring quality workmanship, and prioritizing the completion of key roads within the project timeline. The ongoing efforts reflect the Authority’s commitment to improving the road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity within urban areas for the benefit of the community.
