Three months after the passing of Gambian cricket legend and president Johnny Gomez, the Gambia Cricket Association held a congress to elect a new president and other officials to form a new executive committee.

The National Sports Council (NSC) announced that the new president is veteran international and all-rounder Malamin (Faraba) Fofana. He will be working alongside former national team captain Prince Johnson as the first vice president and former international all-rounder and the first Gambian international umpire Edmond Shonubi as the second vice president.

Additionally, Ebrima Darboe has been appointed as the secretary general, Mary Rose Manga as the assistant secretary, George Greywoode as the treasurer, and John Kwokwori as the auditor.

In addition to these positions, three other individuals, Mbye Dumbuya, Basiru Jaye, and Isatou Drammeh, have been appointed as co-opted members of the executive committee. This newly formed leadership team will be responsible for guiding the Gambia Cricket Association and overseeing the development of cricket in the country.

Malamin Fofana’s appointment as the new president comes at a crucial time for Gambian cricket, as the sport continues to grow in popularity and importance in the country. Fofana’s experience as an international player and all-rounder will bring valuable expertise and leadership to the role, ensuring that the Gambia Cricket Association continues to thrive and expand.

Prince Johnson, the first vice president, brings a wealth of experience as a former national team captain. His knowledge of the game and leadership skills will be instrumental in supporting Fofana and the rest of the executive committee in their efforts to promote and develop cricket in the Gambia.

Edmond Shonubi, the second vice president, has a distinguished career as an international all-rounder and umpire. His unique perspective and deep understanding of the game will be invaluable in ensuring fair and efficient officiating in Gambian cricket matches.

The rest of the executive committee, including the secretary general, assistant secretary, treasurer, and auditor, will play crucial roles in supporting the president and vice presidents in their efforts to advance the goals of the Gambia Cricket Association. Together, they will work to enhance the organization’s governance, financial management, and overall operations.

The co-opted members, Mbye Dumbuya, Basiru Jaye, and Isatou Drammeh, will provide additional support and expertise to the executive committee, helping to ensure that the Gambia Cricket Association remains inclusive and representative of the diverse cricketing community in the country.

Overall, the newly elected executive committee of the Gambia Cricket Association is poised to lead the organization to new heights and ensure that cricket continues to thrive and grow in the Gambia. With a blend of experience, expertise, and passion for the game, this leadership team is well-equipped to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the world of Gambian cricket.
