The National Centre for Arts and Culture (NCAC) recently organized a certification program on tour guiding for the Banjul Tourist Guides (BTG) in collaboration with the Ostend Banjul City Link Project. The program, which took place at the Crab Island Training Centre in Banjul, was sponsored by the Ostend Banjul City Link Project under the EU-funded project. Participants were selected from various wards in Banjul to enhance their knowledge and skills in the field of tour guiding.

The certification program aimed to equip members of the Banjul Tourist Guide (BTG) with the necessary knowledge, connections, and job opportunities to pursue a career as professional tour guides in the city. Through this training, participants were able to deepen their understanding of the heritage sites and attractions in Banjul and across The Gambia. They were also given the opportunity to share the rich history and culture of Banjul City with visitors through engaging storytelling.

The training program included visits to key sites across the city, providing hands-on experience to the thirty trainees. At the end of the program, participants were awarded certificates of completion, marking the beginning of their journey as certified tour guides in Banjul.

During the closing ceremony, Aziz Dabakh Gaye, Deputy Mayor of Banjul City Council, congratulated the trainees on their achievement and emphasized the importance of their role in promoting tourism in the city. He expressed gratitude to the National Centre for Arts and Culture and the Ostend Banjul City Link Project for organizing the program, as well as to the trainers for their dedication and commitment to the training.

Hassoum Ceesay, Director General of the NCAC, commended the trainees for their hard work and dedication throughout the training period. He highlighted the significance of engaging tourists and keeping them interested in the city’s history and culture. He encouraged the trainees to leverage their talents and newfound knowledge to excel in their roles as tour guides.

Mamat Sallah, deputy director of Museum and Monuments, and Alagie Bojang, the lead trainers at the program, praised the trainees for their success and urged them to continue expanding their knowledge through research. They emphasized the importance of continuous learning and improvement to provide a valuable and enriching experience for visitors to Banjul.

Overall, the certification program on tour guiding for the Banjul Tourist Guides (BTG) was a successful initiative that provided participants with the necessary skills and expertise to thrive in their roles as professional tour guides.
