Communities in Jokadou and Badibou are expressing their appreciation for the support of the Gambia government and the World Bank in raising awareness about the Grievances Redress Mechanism (GRM) through the Inclusive and Resilient Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (GIRAV). This support comes ahead of the implementation of nine garden projects that are aimed at benefiting the communities in various ways.
One of the key components of the GIRAV projects is the installation of cold storage facilities in all nine gardens. This will not only help in preserving agricultural produce but also in ensuring food security for the communities. Additionally, the projects will also include the construction of daycare centers for mothers, which will provide much-needed support for working mothers in the communities. Furthermore, the facilitation of market access through a good road network will help in improving the economic prospects of the communities.
The GRM approach being implemented by GIRAV aims to create awareness among the public on how to handle grievances and follow due process. This is crucial in ensuring that conflicts and disputes are resolved in a fair and timely manner. Moreover, the project has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and encourages beneficiaries to report such cases promptly for redress. This proactive approach towards addressing sensitive issues like SGBV is commendable and shows the project’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all community members.
The communities of North Bank Region (NBR) are grateful for the support they have received from the Gambia government and the World Bank in implementing these projects. The awareness-raising activities conducted by GIRAV have helped in educating the people about their rights and responsibilities, as well as the mechanisms available to address any grievances they may have. This has empowered the communities to advocate for themselves and seek redress for any injustices they may face.
In conclusion, the GIRAV projects, supported by the Gambia government and the World Bank, are making a positive impact on the communities of Jokadou and Badibou. The emphasis on building awareness about the GRM and promoting a zero-tolerance policy towards SGBV is commendable and reflects the project’s commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all. The communities are grateful for the support they have received and look forward to the continued success of the projects in improving their livelihoods and well-being.
