The Ministry of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure (MOTWI) recently held its 3-day annual sector retreat at Bakadaji Hotel, Kotu, with various senior officials from institutions under MOTWI coming together to discuss achievements, shortcomings, challenges, and the way forward. The retreat was presided over by Honorable Ebrima Sillah, Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure and was attended by the Chief of Staff, Commissioner for state-owned enterprises (SOEs), Permanent Secretary, and other top officials in the sector.
Honorable Minister Ebrima Sillah expressed his delight at the opportunity to once again gather and discuss important issues affecting the various institutions within the sector. He highlighted the policy initiatives that had been undertaken over the past 12 months, emphasizing the need for sector-wide coordination and efficiency in addressing daily challenges. Minister Sillah emphasized the sensitivity of the sector to public perception and the importance of effective functioning of institutions such as the Port Authority and the National Revenue Authority (NRA).
While recognizing the positive aspects of the organizing committee’s work, Minister Sillah also acknowledged the challenges faced by the sector, particularly in ongoing road construction projects across the country. Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the sector’s overall performance and achievements.
The retreat featured speeches from other key figures in the sector, including Mod Ceesay, Chief of Staff, and Ousainou Ngum, Commissioner for State Owned Enterprises. The discussions at the retreat covered a wide range of topics related to the sector’s operations and future plans.
The Minister emphasized the importance of addressing cross-cutting issues within the sector and ensuring a holistic approach to policymaking. He highlighted the need for efficient coordination between institutions and revenue generating agencies to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.
The retreat, which began on February 28th and ended on March 1st, 2024, provided a platform for open dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders in the sector. The Minister’s address reflected a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation in the transportation, works, and infrastructure sector.
