Malvern St. James Girls College in the UK recently made a generous donation of medicines to Illiasa Minor Centre and learning materials to Mama Tamba Nursery School in Illiasa, North Bank Region (NBR). This act of charity demonstrates their commitment to the health and education of women and children in the community.

The college has a longstanding partnership of over three decades with Lamin Jammeh and his family in The Gambia. Vicky Collett, the head of the team, emphasized the college’s dedication to improving the lives of rural residents through health and education initiatives. She highlighted the impact of their past support, including the construction of a classroom block and assembly hall at Illiasa Basic Cycle School, as well as regular donations of medicines to Illiasa Minor Health Centre.

This year, a group of girls from Malvern St. James Girls College visited The Gambia to witness firsthand how their community projects are making a difference in the lives of rural dwellers. The presentation of medicines and learning materials was attended by dignitaries such as the National Assembly Member for Upper Badibou, Hon. Sankung Dampha, and Senior District Tribunal Court Member, Bakary Jammeh.

Hon. Dampha praised the donation as a crucial contribution to improving healthcare services in the area and emphasized the importance of proper inventory and utilization of the donated drugs for transparency and accountability. Saikou Leigh, Officer In Charge of Illiasa Health Facility, commended the college for their unwavering support for the health sector, noting the positive impact of their donation of quality essential medicines on the well-being of the people of Upper Badibou.

Mr. Tamba Jammeh, Head Teacher of Mama Tamba Nursery School, expressed gratitude for the college’s support in establishing the school and promoting early childhood education. The school, which currently has an enrollment of 110 students, has been instrumental in enhancing educational development and ensuring the attainment of quality education in the community.

Bakary Jammeh took the opportunity to urge citizens of Upper Badibou, both at home and in the diaspora, to support and complement the government’s efforts in strengthening healthcare services. The collaboration between Malvern St. James Girls College and local communities in The Gambia serves as a shining example of how partnerships can create positive change and improve the lives of those in need.

In conclusion, the donation of medicines and learning materials by Malvern St. James Girls College underscores their commitment to empowering women and children through healthcare and education interventions. Their continued support and collaboration with local communities in The Gambia reflect a shared dedication to improving the well-being and educational opportunities for all residents.
