More than thirty young energetic women in Busumbala, Kombo North, West Coast Region recently gathered to form a new association called the “KambengKafo Sisters Association”. The primary aim of this association is to foster understanding and cooperation among its members and other groups or societies to contribute effectively to the progress and development of women and children in The Gambia.
The association consists of married women who have the ambition to engage in productive small and medium enterprises such as gardening, tailoring, soap making, food processing, tie-and-dye, among other lucrative businesses. Additionally, the ultimate goal of the Association is to raise funds through legal means in accordance with the laws as part of the association’s mission and objective.
As a non-political association, it will have a charitable nature, initiating and executing programs designed to benefit vulnerable communities across the country. During the inaugural meeting, Musa Nyockeh, the adopted father of the association, reminded the members about the ultimate purpose of the association and their meeting, which was to hand over the constitution of the association along with necessary documents. Mr. Nyockeh expressed profound gratitude and appreciation as the father of the association, recognizing the trust and confidence the women have bestowed on him to lead and advise them on the right path. He assured them of his unflinching support whenever the need arises and donated fifteen chairs to kick-start their weekly meetings, promising more support in the future.
Muhammed Sanneh, an adviser, emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in the community. He advised the members to prioritize the interest of the association and set aside their political differences to foster solidarity and cooperation among themselves. Sanneh highlighted that solidarity is the foundation of human progress, emphasizing that development is impossible without cooperation and unity.
The president of the association, Ndey Saine, praised Mr. Nyockeh for responding to their needs and expressed gratitude for the donated chairs. The association is committed to its mission of supporting women and children in The Gambia through various productive enterprises and charitable initiatives. By fostering unity, cooperation, and solidarity among its members, the KambengKafo Sisters Association aims to make a positive impact on the communities it serves and contribute to the overall development and progress of women and children in the country.
