Jehovah’s Witnesses in The Gambia are inviting residents to two special events in March. These events hold great importance for Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide and provide an opportunity for members of the local community to learn more about their beliefs.
The first event, the Memorial, is scheduled for Sunday, March 24. This annual observance commemorates the death of Jesus Christ and is considered the most important day of the year for Jehovah’s Witnesses. The Memorial is observed on Nisan 14 of the Jewish calendar in adherence to Jesus’ statement to “Keep doing this in remembrance of me” as mentioned in Luke 22:19. Last year, over 20 million people worldwide attended the Memorial, even though there are over 8.6 million Jehovah’s Witnesses globally.
Walter Sukkau, spokesperson for Jehovah’s Witnesses of Gambia, expressed the hope that members of the local community would join them in remembering the death of Jesus Christ to show gratitude for his sacrifice. He emphasized that while the event is solemn, it is also joyous, and all are welcome to attend. The one-hour event will feature a talk highlighting the significance of Jesus’ death and its meaning for all of humanity.
In preparation for the Memorial, a special campaign was launched on March 2, 2024, to invite local residents to attend the Lord’s Evening Meal. Additionally, a special public talk titled “The Resurrection—Victory Over Death!” will be delivered at local Kingdom Halls on the weekend of March 16 and 17, 2024. This 30-minute, Bible-based discourse will focus on the scriptural hope of a resurrection of the dead in the near future.
Nadine Colley shared her family’s anticipation for the special talk and the Memorial, noting that both events provide practical and instructional guidance while also encouraging reflection on the blessings from God. To learn more about how Jehovah’s Witnesses observe the Lord’s Supper, interested individuals can visit the Frequently Asked Questions page on the official Jehovah’s Witnesses website (jw.org).
For those interested in attending the 2024 Memorial and special talk, more information is available on the jw.org website. These events offer an opportunity for community members to learn about and participate in the beliefs and practices of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The invitation is extended to everyone, regardless of background or religious affiliation.
In conclusion, Jehovah’s Witnesses in The Gambia are extending a warm invitation to residents to join them in commemorating the death of Jesus Christ and learning more about their faith through these two special events in March. Whether attending for instruction, reflection, or simply out of curiosity, all are welcome to participate in these meaningful observances.
