Haddy Touray reports that the Director of Gulf Platform International Recruitment Limited in The Gambia, Julianah Afonnwo, was falsely accused of scamming Gambians out of millions of Dalasi and subsequently arrested. However, during a press conference organized by the recruitment agency, Afonnwo clarified that she was never arrested, but rather invited to the Brusubi police station for questioning in relation to an allegation that she had taken money from individuals with the promise of securing visas for them to travel abroad, which she claimed was untrue.

Afonnwo asserted that the allegations against her were baseless and aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Gulf Platform. She explained to reporters that some of the individuals who had made complaints against her actually owed money to Gulf International for visa processing services that had been provided to them. After presenting the visas and her side of the story to the police, Afonnwo was allowed to return home and was subsequently released after two individuals vouched for her by depositing their IDs at the station.

Further complicating matters, Afonnwo was later summoned to the police headquarters in Banjul on similar charges but was once again released after providing an explanation to the investigators. She emphasized that Gulf Platform Recruitment-The Gambia is a legitimate and registered company that has been operating in The Gambia and beyond since 2002, without any history of wrongdoing.

Afonnwo clarified that Gulf International Recruitment Platform, based in the UAE, acts as an intermediary between individuals seeking to travel abroad and the companies they enter into contracts with. The platform primarily focuses on recruiting drivers and security providers to facilitate legitimate employment opportunities for youth and deter irregular migration.

In conclusion, it is evident that the accusations against Julianah Afonnwo and Gulf Platform International Recruitment Limited were unfounded and without merit. The company continues to operate within the legal framework and uphold ethical standards in its recruitment practices. As the investigation into the allegations continues, Afonnwo remains steadfast in defending her reputation and the integrity of Gulf Platform.
