Ma’am Hayat Blell, the General Manager of Sunset Beach Hotel and Honorary Consul of Malaysia to the Republic of The Gambia, has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Gambia Hotel Association (GHA). This came after the tenure of the previous chairman, Mr. Francis Njie, came to an end. In an acceptance speech following her election, Ma’am Blell emphasized the importance of the association and its role in maintaining international standards of service delivery, especially with the upcoming 15th edition of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in Banjul.
With over two decades of experience in the tourism industry, Ma’am Blell assured that the members of GHA are well-prepared to accommodate guests during the Summit and beyond. As a member of the accommodation committee for the OIC Summit, she mentioned that a team has been assigned to inspect various accommodation options to ensure they meet the required standards for hosting the clientele attending the event.
Ma’am Blell also emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Gambia Tourism Board and other stakeholders to further enhance the tourism industry in The Gambia. She expressed the need for more marketing efforts to attract tourists to the destination, noting that GHA members are experienced and full of innovative ideas that can contribute to the growth of the industry.
In a coincidental visit, the new Minister of Tourism and Culture, Honorable Abdoulie Jobe, expressed his eagerness to collaborate with the Gambia Hotel Association and support the industry’s development. Ma’am Blell mentioned that the association’s priorities include strengthening ties with stakeholders, ministries, and focusing on training opportunities to enhance the overall performance of the industry.
It is essential for the association to work closely with the Ministry of Tourism and other key players to improve the tourism sector and elevate the image of Destination Gambia as a premier tourist destination. Ma’am Blell reiterated the commitment of GHA members to work collaboratively and contribute their expertise to attract more tourists to The Gambia.
