The Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently organized a two-day workshop for the Club Licensing Online Platform (CLOP) for domestic men and women league clubs in The Gambia. The workshop aimed to prepare the clubs for CAF inter-club competitions and the professionalization of the Gambian football league. The President of the Gambia Football Federation, Lamin Kaba Bajo, emphasized the importance of the workshop in providing stakeholders with the opportunity to discuss club licensing, exchange ideas, experiences, and best practices to improve football in the country.
During the workshop, the GFF second vice president for competition matters, Ebou Faye, urged participants to be attentive, ask questions, and engage with the instructors to better understand the club licensing process. The CAF club licensing instructor, Siman Allie-Mans Conteh, along with Francis Adu, led training sessions on the CAF Club Licensing Online Platform. The platform, launched in 2022, is an electronic tool system designed to manage licensing processes and stadium inspections for continental and domestic competitions.
The workshop focused on familiarizing users with the CAF Club Licensing regulations framework for men and women, explaining mandatory criteria for domestic and continental competitions, and utilizing the features of the CLOP system. The platform allows licensors to implement a fully automated and electronic club licensing process, ensuring smooth gathering and real-time visualization of documents submitted by license applicants.
CAF’s initiative to introduce the Club Licensing Online Platform aims to streamline club licensing processes for continental and domestic competitions. Member Associations will use the platform to manage their licensing systems each season, enhancing the professionalism and organization of football clubs in Africa. The system is extended to all CAF national associations, promoting compliance with licensing requirements for both continental and domestic competitions.
The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the club licensing process and guidelines set by CAF. By engaging with instructors and collaborating with fellow stakeholders, Gambian clubs are better equipped to meet the standards necessary to compete at the continental level. The knowledge gained from the workshop will enable clubs to structure themselves effectively and enhance their competitiveness in both domestic and international football tournaments. Overall, the workshop was a significant step towards professionalizing Gambian football and preparing clubs for future success on the African stage.
