Saikou Kanteh, a Gambian deportee from Germany, has recently made allegations against the German police, claiming that he was subjected to brutal physical torture and had iron forcefully placed in his mouth in an attempt to silence him. Originally from Basse in the Upper River Region (URR) of The Gambia, Kanteh was one of nearly 20 Gambians who were deported from Germany last week.

In an interview, Kanteh revealed that he had been working in Germany for over a decade and had always been tax-compliant. He shared that he received a letter from the police asking him to serve as a witness in a case that he had no prior knowledge of. Despite being completely in the dark about the reason for his invitation, Kanteh decided to comply and go to the police station before heading to work that day.

Upon arriving at the station, Kanteh found himself alone and was not informed of the alleged crime that someone had committed. Feeling confused and frustrated by the lack of information, Kanteh stated that he was detained by the police without proper cause. When he questioned why he was being treated in such a manner, especially considering the hospitality extended to white visitors in The Gambia, Kanteh claimed that the police responded with further violence, including forcefully inserting iron into his mouth, causing him to bleed and experience intense pain.

Kanteh expressed his belief that the police were unjustified in their actions and that they should have provided a lawful explanation for his detention. He detailed the events that led to his deportation, highlighting the lack of communication and the brutal treatment he endured throughout the process. Kanteh’s brother, Alagie Kanteh, also voiced his disappointment in the Gambian government for their lack of response to his brother’s situation, emphasizing the need for justice to be served.

The story of Saikou Kanteh’s ordeal has been shared on social media, drawing attention to the alleged mistreatment he faced at the hands of the German police. The governments of The Gambia and Germany have yet to comment on the issue, leaving many unanswered questions about the circumstances surrounding Kanteh’s deportation and the allegations of abuse he has brought to light.

As the investigation into Kanteh’s case continues, his family and supporters are calling for accountability and justice for the injustices he claims to have suffered. The need for transparency and respect for human rights in cases of deportation and law enforcement actions is paramount, and the spotlight on Kanteh’s story serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring fair and humane treatment for all individuals, regardless of their legal status.
